Christmas cars: top 5 autos fit to replace Santa’s sleigh

Christmas is now very much just around the corner. Santa Claus will soon be hopping in his sleigh to deliver presents all around the globe – in a socially distanced, COVID-secure manner of course.

However, what if Saint Nick’s sleigh suddenly became out of action? What if he only had time to visit a car dealership to obtain a replacement? What make and model should he get?

Well, let’s think. It’ll need to have room for presents, be lightning fast (in all weather conditions) so to reach everyone in one night, and preferably red – you know, because it’s Christmas.

Here are five ideal candidates for the role of four-wheeled Xmas transportation…

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

Firstly, we have the behemoth which is the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. This monster SUV from the USA has 707bhp and 881Nm of torque on tap from its 6.2-litre supercharged V8.

Despite weighing 2.4 tonnes, this tank of an automobile can go from 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds. Top speed is also pegged at 190mph – incredible for a large SUV such as the Trackhawk.

Although, from Kris Kringle’s point of view, it’s understandable that a monster of an engine isn’t all that’s required. A monster of a boot is also essential. Fortunately, the Jeep has a massive 1,554 litres available with the rear seats folded down.

Ferrari GTC4Lusso

In the true spirit of Christmas, Ferrari gave the GTC4Lusso a wonderful gift in its glorious 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12. With 680bhp and four-wheel-drive, it’s undeniably rapid in all conditions – 0-60mph takes only 3.2 seconds.

However, travelling across the world also demands a high top speed. Thankfully, the GTC4Lusso is able to reach a staggering 208mph.

And to top it off, the model is a shooting brake, so there’s a decent amount of space available – 800 litres (with the rear seats folded down) to be exact. Sure, not SUV levels of practicality, but the Lusso more than makes up for it in speed, capability and joyous V12 noise.

Lamborghini Urus

Like the Trackhawk, the Urus is another super-fast SUV with an amazing top speed of 190mph. It may have a little less power – 641bhp from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 – than the Jeep, but it’s still mindbogglingly fast.

Plant your snowy boot on the right pedal and the Urus will leap from 0-60mph in only 3.3 seconds. It’s got plenty of room for presents too with a huge 1,596-litre boot (with the rear seats folded down).

Tesla Model X

One aspect not discussed with the other cars on this list is noise, more specifically the potential hinderance of it. Though the Ferrari’s soundtrack is fantastic, it may very well wake people up, which is not ideal when trying to deliver presents across the world in secret.

That’s where the Model X comes in. Due to its all-electric powertrain, it’s practically silent, ensuring no one will be rudely awakened by Saint Nick’s arrival during Christmas night.

In addition, it’s quick too – and I mean really quick. The Model X, in its fastest form, can go from 0-60mph in just 2.6 seconds. Boot space is also incredible at 2,367 litres with all but the front two seats folded down.

Ford Focus RS

For more urban environments, the Focus RS will come in handy. This agile rally car with number plates has a clever four-wheel-drive system and 345bhp available from its turbocharged 2.3-litre engine.

However, if that wasn’t enough power, Santa is more than welcome to tune and upgrade his RS into oblivion, as a lot of enthusiasts have. For example, Mountune is able to take the car over 500bhp.

Its boot is reasonably large at 1,045 litres with the rear seats lowered, which is enough for a decent amount of Christmas gifts.
